May is Bike Month!
Whether you're a new rider or a seasoned cyclist, May is the perfect time to take new bike trips around our region!
Bicycling is a healthy, economical, and environmentally friendly way to get to work. You can check out the ConnectingVA app to find bike routes to your workplace, school or any other destinations!
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has an excellent PDF available which shares tips on how to get started and ride safely, which can be accessed here.
Bike to Work Day 2024
May is Bike to Work Month!
Join us on Friday, May 17 at the Downtown Community Market for a Bike to Work Day Celebration! Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just getting started, this event is for you! We will have free coffee and a light breakfast.
All participants can enter into a drawing for a brand new electric bike and helmet!
Not sure where to start? CVPDC Staff will be at the entrance to Riverside Park at 7:30 if you’d like to ride alongside other cyclists on the way to the Community Market.

Commuter Needs Assessment
The CVPDC has launched two commuter needs surveys: one for individuals, and one for employers (business owners, HR representatives and management).
Both surveys launched on April 17 and will be open until May 17. The surveys are brief and upon completion participants can be entered to win a $100 gift card!

DRPT Unveils New Trip Planner Tool
Virginia’s Department of Rail and Public Transportation has released a new online map-based tool to help commuters plan their trips via bus, rail, car/vanpools or walking/biking. The new Trip Planner will equip commuters in rural areas with a tool that has more advanced capabilities than Google Maps, which typically focuses on transportation services with set routes and schedules, by providing information about micro transit opportunities.
